  • 1 Coordinator
  • 1 Inclusive Counsellor
  • 6 Camp Counsellors

The Coordinator is responsible for planning and organizing camp activities.
The Inclusive Counsellor assists the Camp Counsellors with campers who may need more assistance and direction to engage in activities.
The Camp Counsellors are broken down to 3 groups based on age of the campers. These staff program and supervise the children at all times.

All 8 staff members are supported by the Program and Events Supervisor, Recreation Programmer, and other permanent staff at the Nick Smith Centre and Town of Arnprior.

Camp Staff receive training from High Five Canada, Autism in Sport, and have a training week with Recreation Staff prior to camp starting.

Camp Wanna-Go has weekly themes to keep each week interesting. We often have children who join us all summer so we work to keep it fresh and fun all summer.

Regardless of the week, campers will swim for 40-minutes in the pool at the Nick Smith Centre and skate for 50-minutes on the ice pad.

Friday is our downtown adventure day where we drop-off and pick-up at the Emmanual Anglican Church (287 Harrington Street). On Fridays, we visit the O'Brien Theatre for a movie, bowl for an hour at Steelheads and Strikes, and visit parks and play structures. Your registration includes admission to each activity as well as popcorn and a drink at the movie theatre.

Allergies - Camp Wanna-Go is a peanut free camp as that is the most common allergy. Your registration form will ask you about your child's allergies which will be reviewed by staff. Should your child have a food allergy, we will alert other parents registered in camp and inform that that this food is not permitted in this week. Camp Staff will also monitor children's lunches and snacks to ensure safety.

Health Conditions - Your registration form will ask if there are any health conditions that we should be aware of. This information is confidential and will be kept among staff in camp. We ask this information to be aware of any potential threats to your child. This also helps us understand what may be of issue if a child is feeling unwell.

Pick-Up - Your registration form will ask who is an authorized pick-up of your child. Staff will become familiar with those commonly picking up and dropping off at camp.

Pool - The Town of Arnprior has an Aquatics Admissions Standards that dictates whether or not a child needs a lifejacket in the pool based on the assessment of their swim test. Please refer to that document by clicking the link above. Note that Camp Counsellors will be in the pool with the children as well.

Ice Skating - All children and staff on the ice require a helmet. We have a limited number of skates and helmets for use. Staff are on the ice with the kids to assist in skating as well as skate aids for them to lean on. Staff also help tie skates.

Behavioural - Camp Wanna-Go has a strict bullying and behavioural policy to ensure a safe and inclusive environment. The following steps are taken to address inappropriate behaviours.

  1. Conversation with the Camp Coordinator. May result in sitting out game/activity.
  2. Conversation with Camp Coordinator and Program and Events Supervisor. May result in sitting out game/activity.
  3. Conversation with Camp Coordinator, Program and Events Supervisor, and parent/guardian of the child. May result in being set home for the day.
  4. One-day suspension from camp
  5. Expelled from camp for remainder of the summer.

Note: these steps may be escalated due to the severity of the infraction (i.e. violence, threats)

Staffing Ratio - Camp Counsellors work in a ratio of 1:8 with campers. Staff are never left alone and always work in at least a pair of 2.
