Beaches

The town of Arnprior boasts beautiful waterfront along both the Madawaska and Ottawa rivers. Along these waterways, the Town has two beaches located at Robert Simpson Park and McLean Park.

Location: 400 John Street North

Beach Amenities

  • Over 275 feet of beachfront
  • Guarded Beach
    • Lifeguards on duty daily from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Play Structure
  • Splash Pad
    • Open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, until Thanksgiving Weekend
  • AccessMat (Accessible beach mat)
  • WaterWheels (Accessible water and beach wheelchair – ask lifeguards for use)
  • JAYDOG Canteen
  • Open daily from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Open Play Area
  • Washroom Facilities
    • Open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • Gazebo (rental required)
  • Picnic Tables (first come, first served)

Parking Information

  • Main Level Parking
    • 65 spaces total, including 5 accessible parking stalls
  • Beach Level Parking
    • 7 spaces total – 3 accessible and 4 standard
    • All other areas of the waterfront, including the hill, are Tow Away Zones
  • Weekend Overflow Parking
    • Available at no cost in the rear lot of Arnprior Hospital
    • (Please follow signage – note that the front lot of the hospital is paid parking)
  • On-Street Parking
    • Available in designated areas on:
      • John Street North
      • Ewen Street
      • Albert Street
      • Lake Street
      • Church Street
      • And surrounding streets
  • Park Attendant On-Site
    • Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
    • The attendant supports a safe park environment and enforces Town by-laws and parking regulations

    • Open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • 3 lighted ball diamonds:
    • 2 fastball diamonds

  • 3 disc golf nets

Swim at Own Risk

Please Swim Between the Buoys

No Lifeguard on Duty – Emergency Dial 911.

The buoyed area is supervised seasonally – 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Notice:

Waterfront conditions (depth, bottom, etc.) may change. Beware of waves, rocks and uneven bottom conditions.

Stay in the swimming area | Don’t swim alone | Don’t swim at night

Always obey the lifeguard - They have the right to enforce additional guidelines.

Parents:

Stay within arm’s reach of your children at all times.

Beach Rules: All other municipal by-laws apply.

  • Supervise your children
  • Place waste in receptacle
  • No glass
  • No alcohol
  • No tents or overnight camping
  • No diving
  • No smoking, vaping or marijuana
  • No fires
  • No boats
  • No inflatables
  • No fishing
  • No pets
  • No littering
  • Do not feed the birds
  • No open air burning or charcoal BBQs
    • Where BBQs are permitted, only CSA approve propane BBQs are allowed

Dangerous Undertows and Current

Swim only in supervised area

If caught in an undertow:

  • Don’t fight the current
  • Swim parallel to the shore, then to shore at an angle
  • If you can’t escape, float or tread water
  • If you need help, call or wave for assistance

When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors!

  • Stop all activities
  • Seek shelter indoors or hard-topped vehicle
  • Wait 30 minutes after storm to resume activities

No beach access between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Splash Pad Rules

Splash Pad is Unsupervised

Use at Own Risk

  1. Parents or guardians must continually supervise children
  2. Children shall be appropriately attired for their age and continence ability to prevent fouling of the splash pad. Children under 3 must wear swim diapers.
  3. No glass container, food, or beverage is allowed on the splash pad or in the area immediately surrounding the spray pad/splash pad.
  4. Recreational water is not intended for drinking.
  5. Do not use the splash pad if you have an open sore or rash, or are experiencing nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
  6. No person shall pollute the water or surface of the splash pad in any manner or on the immediate area surrounding the splash pad.
  7. No person shall engage in boisterous play in or about the splash pad.

  • No water balloons or bubbles (in the splash pad)
  • No animals (in the splash pad)
  • No street clothes or shoes (in the splash pad)
  • No bathing
    • No soaps, shampoos, or detergents
  • No climbing on splash pad fixtures
  • Non-Slip Footwear strongly recommended
  • Splash Pad may be closed at any time due to weather, maintenance or other operational concerns
