Sheds
You are not required to get a building permit for the shed, if it is less than 15m2 (161 sq.ft) footprint and has no plumbing or power. (10’x16’). Even if your shed does not require a permit you are still required to adhere to the zoning requirements for an accessory building.
As per sections 4.1 and 6.4.1 of the Town's zoning by-law the following rules apply to accessory buildings or structures, including sheds, on residential properties in Arnprior:
- Sheds may not be located closer to the street than the main building
- Maximum lot coverage of all accessory buildings is 10%
- Maximum three (3) accessory buildings or structures per lot
- Minimum 1.2 m to other buildings
- Minimum 1.2 m to a side or rear lot line, or 0.6 m from a side lot line where dwellings share a wall (semi-detached or townhouse)
- Maximum 5 m in tall
- Cannot be built before a main building on the lot
- Cannot be located within an easement that is in favour of a public authority
- Cannot be used for human habitation or a home business
Residential accessory buildings or structures include residential storage sheds, gardens sheds, and detached garages but does not includes decks or fences
